derby cars here. Cubmaster
Mike has created a wheel specification tool, and the pack has a "spec

haven't already, please sign up for food donations for Derby Day, and be
on the alert for the kitchen volunteer sign-up list as well.

Pack Yack Posted
The August 2007 Pack Yack has been posted.
For those who did not receive one in the email, take a look. A few comments:
- Blue and Gold Banquet date has changed due to availablity of
the church, and
- No date has yet been chosen for snow
tubing.
Welcome Back!
The new Scouting year has begun. The first
meeting for all Scouts -- returning and new -- is September 11. That
means it is time to think about
uniforms and
handbooks! Please see the pack's guidelines to uniforms and
handbooks. Outfitting a new Scout can be expensive, so the pack
recommends focusing on the book first (to help the Scout progress in his
advancements and awards), followed by shirt (with insignia), belt, and
finally cap. The uniform is an important method of
Cub Scouting (although last on the list), but no boy will ever
be turned away for lack of uniforming.
Popcorn Fundraising Begins
The official start date of the
fall 2007 Council popcorn sales began on August 25. Each registered
Scout should have received popcorn sales information in the mail soon.
As soon as you have an order form you can begin selling. Order forms
and buyout money are due at the October 16 pack meeting at the Creekside
Fire Hall. Popcorn distribution will be held Saturday, November 10, at
the church. Popcorn sales money is due at the November 19 committee
meeting at the church.
For this year, the sales goal for each
Scout is $180. This ensures that the pack income will be at least $60
per Scout. The pack is offering a buyout for those Scouts and families
who choose not to participate or who cannot sell the minimum sales goal
of $180. The buyout is structured as follows:
Scouts selling the minimum of $180 are exempt from the buyout.
Scouts not selling anything (sales of $0) will be asked to buyout their
share at $60 to the pack. Scouts selling more than $0 but less than
$180 will be asked to buyout their unsold share at the difference
between the pack's share of sales and the $60. For example, a Scout
with $75 popcorn sales contributes $25 to the pack. Therefore, the pack
asks that the Scout buyout the difference of $35. A Scout with $150
popcorn sales contributes $50 to the pack and will be asked to buyout
the difference of $10.
The pack stresses that popcorn sales provide the lion's share of
income for operating Cub Scout Pack 285. Each Scout doing his part to
"help the pack go" will go a long way in providing the great program
that Scouts and families have enjoyed for 39 years. For additional
information about pack finances and how the popcorn fundraiser
contibutes, please contact the pack treasurer.
Annual Program Planning Meeting - July 29, 2007 at 2 PM
The
Pack 285 committee will be conducting the 2007-2008 annual program
planning meeting starting at 2 PM on Sunday, July 29, 2007. We will be
holding the meeting at Duke's Riverside Bar and
Grille in Wormleysburg. You can
create your own directions. The objects of this meeting are to
identify monthly activities, set tentative dates for meetings and
activities, and begin detailed planning for the remainder of the 2007
calendar year. If you have some ideas for activities or events, we
encourage you to attend this meeting and propose them. Your
participation in this event is very important because this is where the
events and activities that you want get proposed, discussed, voted, and
planned.
Historically, this annual planning meeting has lasted
from 2 to 3 hours. We try to identify known activities and dates for
the entire year up-front, discuss and plan August through December, and
then discuss possibilities, strategies, etc. So if you can only be
present for part of the time, please know that we try to address most
pressing and important items first.
If nothing else, spending
some time with the committee during this important yearly meeting will
be a good way to identify who's who within the pack
committee and pack leaders. If you have any questions, please
contact committee chair Jen Seip or cubmaster Mike Weaver.
